We learn from a note titled “Inside Snape’s Head,” from the late Alan Rickman, that Rickman was upset how David Yates, director of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” (and three other “Potter” films) influenced Snape’s story arc, The Independent reported.
“It’s as if David Yates has decided that this is not important in the scheme of things i.e. teen audience appeal,” Rickman wrote, according to The Independent‘s Jack Shepherd.
The note is one of multiple letters from Rickman’s personal collection that have come out. Rickman, who passed away two years ago, further wrote that he had “frustrations” in general playing Snape, The Independent reported.
Among the letters is one from producer David Heyman, who expressed gratitude to Rickman for his performance in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” the second installment in the series.
“Thank you for making ‘HP2’ a success,” Heyman writes, according to Shepherd. “I know, at times, you are frustrated but please know that you are an integral part of the films. And you are brilliant.”
Another letter is from JK Rowling, the creator of the Potter world and mythos. She gives appreciation towards Rickman for “doing justice to my most complex character,” The Independent reported.
The letters are being auctioned away in London, with a price tag of $1.26 million U.S. dollars, Shepherd wrote.
Also up for bidding will be letters from former U.S. president Bill Clinton, former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair and Charles, Prince of Wales, besides Rickman’s “Die Hard” script, where Rickman was the villain Hans Gruber.
“It’s a fabulous collection,” said bookseller and actor Neil Pearson, who compiled the items, according to The Mirror.
Pearson added that there are 35 boxes of works, which include the “Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves” and “Truly Madly Deeply” scripts.
Pearson further described the collection to The Mirror as “Every single script of a play or film … and a massive amount of correspondence from pretty much everyone you’ve ever heard of.”
